How To Remove Stains from Your Expensive Lingerie?

Let’s get real for a second about washing your expensive lingerie. Even if you wash them obsessively every single week, deep down you know you aren’t totally getting rid of those stubborn stains on your favourite lingerie pieces. Expensive lingerie like silk, lace intimates, and bras are not only super delicate but also investment pieces. Stains from body oils, period stains, make-up, and skincare products like lotion and self-tanner can ruin your expensive pieces. So we should take care of them properly. So how exactly can we take care of them properly? In this guide, I’ll tell you how to remove stains from your expensive lingerie.

How To Remove Oil Stains?

It’s 8:00pm and you are eating your favourite juicy chicken tenders or that spicy paneer frankie on the couch, chilling in your favourite bralette and shorts. You’re totally zoned into a new episode of your favourite show and you finally noticed an oil spot on your bralette. Ugh. It’s really frustrating when something drops on your favourite lingerie pieces. I don’t know about you but this happened to me a lot of times. Now how to remove this stain?

Place the stained piece on an ironing board, or find any flat surface that can be left undisturbed overnight. Place a fresh cloth on the board and lay your item out flat, so that the stain sits on top with nothing beneath it.

If your oil spill is still wet, remove the excess oil first by using a second clean cloth or paper towel, press the stain to remove the remaining oil.

You can also use cornstarch to remove oil stains from lingerie. Check your cupboards for the white powder of your choice. Corn starch, baby powder, baking soda, or even white flour works. This will soak up your oil stain immediately. Sprinkle the powder on the stain and gently massage. If the powder gets oily or greasy immediately, top it off with some more powder. Then leave it to soak up the oil. 

Pro Tip:

You can even let the powdered material sit overnight. In the morning, dust off your lingerie.

How To Treat Stubborn Stains:

To treat stubborn stains add a bit of extra detergent on the stained spot or wet the bar and gently rub on the spot. Once it’s dry, there’s a good chance your stain will be gone like magic! If the stain is not gone, I recommend you to try the process again. If it’s still there even after trying twice, a dry cleaner can help you out. Make sure to let them know how you’ve treated the stain so far. 

How To Remove Blood Stains:

Apply detergent or use a wet bar for fresh blood stains. Pretreat the blood stain or soak the garment in cool water for 20-30 minutes with an enzyme-based detergent. Make sure the detergent is bleach-free. Because if you use a bleached one it will dye out your favourite lingerie. To remove the deposit of blood, brush the stain well with a brush, or with your fingernail, to remove the excess.  

Note: Always use cold water for treating blood stains.
