What are Demi Cup Bras?
Dear reader, welcome to the world of lingerie, where we explore one of the many bra types; Demi Cup Bra. This bra style has been christened based on the coverage it offers. As the name suggests, demi has been derived from the French word ‘demilune’ meaning half.
What is a Demi Cup Bra?
Bras are designed using various cups to provide low to high coverage. Demi cup bras are designed with an inward curve towards a shorter centre gore covering half the breasts and providing lesser coverage as compared to a full cup bra. They usually provide half to two-third coverage and work best with slightly low necklines.
Demi Cup Bra v/s Full Cup Bra
Demi Cup | Full Cup |
Coverage: Half | Coverage: Full |
Centre gore: Low | Centre gore: High |
Best under: Slightly low neckline | Best under: Regular to high neckline |
Styles: Push-up, Balconette, Plunge | Styles: T-shirt, Sports, Minimiser |
While demi-cup bras cover half the breasts, full-cup bras cover the entire breasts. Demi cup bras are ideal for slightly low necklines as they highlight the cleavage and stay hidden under low necklines, unlike full cup bras that may conceal the cleavage and peak beneath deep necklines. Full-cup bras have a higher centre gore when compared to demi-cup bras.
Types of Demi Cup Bras
1. Push-up Bra
The purpose of the push-up bra is to enhance the cleavage and most of the push-up bras have demi coverage that provides lesser coverage and reveals more of cleavage.
2. Balconette Bra
Also known as a shelf bra, this bra style is designed with a straight neckline, side-set straps and low-cut cups, resembling a balcony. Balconette bras help flaunt the neckline and work best under broad and square necks.
3. Plunge Bra
Plunge bra features extremely low-cut cups that make this bra style the perfect pick to be worn under deep plunging necklines.
4. Strapless Bra
As the name suggests, this bra can be worn without the straps. It usually has silicon taping on the inner side of the cups to stay put and prevent the bra from slipping down. Strapless bras are usually worn under low-cut outfits and hence feature demi cups.
Why Should I Try Demi Cup Bra?
Demi cup bra is one of the must-have bras for your closet. It works well with almost all Indian body types and gives a very flattering fit. Still not convinced? Here are 3 reason why you should give them a try
1. Versatile
Every girl has at least one piece of clothing in her wardrobe that features a low neckline and needs a special bra to go with it. Well, it’s a demi cup bra that you’re looking for! Demi cup bra doesn’t just work with your special low-neck outfits but can be worn with literally anything, without compromising on comfort.
2. Enhances Bust Shape
A demi cup can make the breasts look rounder and firmer while boosting the cleavage and your confidence (wink, wink)
3. Extra support for smaller bust size
Most of the demi cup bras come with underwired cups which provide a gentle lift to the breasts without the added bulk of a push-up bra.
